Alinghi Base
Textile Architecture. Terraces of the Alinghi Base. Port America’s Cup. Valencia.
After a long and patient selection process we were chosen by Alinghi (Defender and host of the 32nd America’s Cup) to design some of the most emblematic areas at their base, designed by the Valencian architect José Mª Tomás and situated at the America’s Cup Port. In the case of the textile roofing of the terraces the project became a technical challenge. We had to create an emblematic roofing structure of 550m2 that would top its building and give it an outstanding silhouette, as well as being able to cope with the extreme weather conditions near the shore, trying to avoid the huge pressure of the wind that could damage the structure of the building. Apart from the rooftop structure, we also created an awning of almost 200 m2 on the first floor and nine parasols of 16 m2, to give shade.
This project would have been impossible without the collaboration and expertise of Industrias BEC, who took care of the design, calculations, manufacturing and installation. It was a pleasure to work with and learn from Salvi, Franchi, Tom, Kilian… and the rest of the Miserachs company. During the two years of execution of the works at the Port America’s Cup we acted as their technical office in Valencia and collaborated in several other smaller scale projects. It was a great pleasure that we would repeat without hesitation. We recommend you visit their website www.e-bec.es (essential beside book)
